Frequently asked

What is a wake window?

A wake window is the length of time a baby can comfortably stay awake between sleeps. It grows with age — from roughly 45 minutes for a newborn to several hours for a toddler. Watching wake windows helps avoid an overtired baby.

How many naps should my baby take?

It decreases with age: newborns nap 4–5 times a day, dropping to 3 naps around 4–5 months, 2 naps by 9–12 months, and a single nap from roughly 15–18 months through the preschool years.

Is this a substitute for medical advice?

No. These are typical developmental ranges to use as a starting point. Every baby is different — follow your baby’s sleepy cues and talk to your pediatrician about sleep concerns.
