Frequently asked
What is adjusted (corrected) age?
Adjusted age is your baby’s age based on the original due date rather than the birth date. You subtract the number of weeks born early from the actual age. It gives a fairer picture of a premature baby’s development.
How do you calculate corrected age?
Take the baby’s actual age, then subtract the weeks they were born early (due date minus birth date). For example, a 6-month-old born 8 weeks early has a corrected age of about 4 months.
Until what age do you adjust?
Most pediatricians use corrected age to set milestone and growth expectations until about 2 years, after which the difference becomes negligible for most children.
Should I use actual or adjusted age for milestones?
Use adjusted age for developmental milestones and growth charts for preterm babies. Use actual age for things like vaccination scheduling, which follows birth date.
