Youβll use thousands of wipes, so thickness, ingredients, and cost-per-wipe add up fast. Fragrance-free is the safest default for newborn skin.
Water-based
Mostly purified water (often 99%) β gentlest for newborns and sensitive skin.
Plant-based / biodegradable
Made from plant fibers; better for the planet, check flushability claims.
Sensitive / fragrance-free
No added fragrance or harsh preservatives to reduce reactions.
Textured / thick
Heavier, quilted wipes that clean big messes in fewer pulls.
What to look for
For very young or sensitive skin, wipes that are ~99% water with minimal additives are the gentlest option and least likely to irritate. They can be pricier and feel less "cleansing" on big messes.
Generally no β even many "flushable" wipes donβt break down like toilet paper and can clog plumbing. Bin them unless the packaging is explicitly septic-safe and you trust it.
Not inherently, but fragrance is a common irritant. If your baby has sensitive skin or diaper rash, switch to fragrance-free.
